Everything happens for a reason?

You know this saying that everything happens for a reason? I don't really know what to think about that. Sometimes I like to believe that it is true, but sometimes I feel that it is more up to ourselves than up to our destiny. But then, when something happens, I just can't let go of the feeling that ‘everything happens for a reason'. That there might be something “above” us. It is hard to explain and I think that soon enough I will be more sure of the answer, I think time will tell and life will show me. But as of today, I will have to stick with that I rather believe in myself than in any God.
